CREATIVE APPROACH (1)

Ton Kalishoek has detected a trend in modern day to day life where human beings are being treated as objects, whether it be as an object for research, or a targeted object of consumer marketing. Humans have become faceless, numbered objects, stripped of the emotions, charactertraits and oddities that set them apart from the mass.

Ton attempts to visually express this trend in his work. His objects display faceless, identical figures in emotionally charged situations. The observer is left with questions about the identities of these figures, their thoughts, emotions, desires and aspirations.

CREATIVE APPROACH (2)

A second source of inspiration for Ton Kalishoek is the current economic situation, and the critical look at productionprocesses that it triggered. Efficiency in productionprocesses is essential, as it can reduce the price of the finished product. Methods such as decomposition, componentproduction and assembly are used for this purpose. The finished product is then composed of a collection of standardized parts which are produced seperately, a process of construction and development which could be described as modular. Ton Kalishoek tries to apply this way of thinking to his own work.

CREATIVE APPROACH (3)

Ton uses contrast in his work, both in use of colour and in the representation of a mood. His approach is minimalistic, he finds decorative details superfluous and he prefers to use simple shapes and presentations.
